Enhancing Soil Quality of Short Rotation Forest Operations Using Biochar and Manure

چکیده
Biochar and manure may be used to enhance soil quality productivity for sustainable agriculture forestry operations. However, the response of surface belowground wood decomposition (i.e., processes) nutrient flux amendments is unknown, more site-specific information about property responses also essential. In a split-plot design, was amended with three rates (whole plot; 0, 3, 9 Mg ha−1) biochar (split-plot; 2.5, 10 ha−1). Soil physical properties, nutrients, enzyme activities were evaluated in two years. addition, stakes species (poplar, triploid Populus tomentosa Carr.; aspen, tremuloides Michx.; pine, Pinus taeda L.) installed both horizontally on vertically mineral serve as an index abiotic biotic changes. Wood stake mass loss, nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), potassium (K) tested. The high rate increased water content by average 18%, but increase total P, K, organic carbon (C) content, restricted single sample dates or depths. decomposed faster according location (mineral > surface) (two pine). On average, significantly loss 18% 5%, respectively, it altered cycling. Overall, standard can great indicator changes, ha−1 alone combined long-term sequestration plantations similar conditions present study.

Hardwood biochar and manure co-application to a calcareous soil.
Biochar may affect the mineralization rate of labile organic C sources such as manures via microbial community shifts, and subsequently affect nutrient release. In order to ascertain the positive or negative priming effect of biochar on manure, dairy manure (2% by wt.) and a hardwood-based, fast pyrolysis biochar were applied (0%, 1%, 2%, and 10% by wt.) to a calcareous soil. Destructive sampli...

U tah has a small, but regionally (and nationally, in the case of tart cherry) significant tree fruit industry producing over $23 million in orchard receipts (US Census Bureau, 2009) from about 8,000 acres statewide (42% tart cherry, 23% peaches, 21% apple, with the remainder in sweet cherries, apricots, pears and other minor crops; USDANASS, 2007). Hence, establishing proper interpretive guide...
متن کاملStability and stabilisation of biochar and green manure in soil with different organic carbon contents
Due to its recalcitrance against microbial degradation, biochar is very stable in soil compared to other organic matter additions, making its application to soils a suitable approach for the build-up of soil organic carbon (SOC). The net effects of such biochar addition also depend on its interactions with existing organic matter in soils. A study was established to investigate how the status o...
متن کاملBiochar and manure affect calcareous soil and corn silage nutrient concentrations and uptake.
Carbon-rich biochar derived from the pyrolysis of biomass can sequester atmospheric CO, mitigate climate change, and potentially increase crop productivity. However, research is needed to confirm the suitability and sustainability of biochar application to different soils. To an irrigated calcareous soil, we applied stockpiled dairy manure (42 Mg ha dry wt) and hardwood-derived biochar (22.4 Mg...
